Does your child have too many books? Whether the books are piled high in their play area or you’re constantly cleaning up your kid’s books. You might even notice as you’re putting away your kids books that half (or more) of the them hardly ever get read!
Let’s talk about some ways to help simplify your child’s books, ways to organize your child’s books, and what/where/how to get rid of unwanted books.
The first step is to collect all your kid’s books and place them in the center of the room.
Please take note of any damaged books and toss them into the garbage pile. Remember, never donate damaged items. No one wants to buy your damaged items.
Set aside any duplicated books, books your child has outgrown, or books your child never picks up to read.
Kids of different ages.
Suppose you have kids who are of different ages. It would be best to have two separate locations for their books. To help with the possible disorganization of older and younger books becoming mixed up together. Even if it’s just top and bottom shelf separation.
Book storage/display.
Any book you decide to save MUST have a home. This is key to maintaining an organized and decluttered home. If you have too many books and they won’t fit in your designated storage space. Then you need to continue to simplify your child’s books.
Rotate seasonal books.
This is another good idea if you have too many books and do not want to part with them. You can remove seasonal books and then only bring those books out once it’s that specific season. Examples: Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.
Store seasonal books with your seasonal decorations. For example. Store Christmas books with your Christmas decor. That way, it’ll be easy to locate when that specific season comes around.
You can also check your neighborhood to see if they have a book exchange location. Many do! This is a great idea for your child to get rid of duplicate books or books they are uninterested in anymore and replace them with books they would be interested in reading.
