The first time I heard the term capsule wardrobe, I thought it sounded boring and kinda high maintenance. I did not want to give my clothes that much thought and creating a capsule wardrobe seemed unnecessary.
Then, I realized I had a misunderstanding about a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe did not mean you can only have exactly 5 shirts, 2 pants, and one pair of shoes (while I know some people go extreme and focus on the numbers). That method wouldn’t work for me. To me, a capsule wardrobe was minimizing my wardrobe, becoming easy to maintain, functioning well for me without decision fatigue or overwhelm, and only holding items in my wardrobe that I will wear. Not the shirt you’re saving for “one day this might fit me”.
After creating a capsule wardrobe for myself. I realized it was essential to create ones for my kids as well.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes that can be put together in different ways and includes everything you would normally need to wear. The aim is to have an outfit suitable for any occasion without owning excessive items of clothing. This is usually achieved by buying what are considered to be “key” or “staple” items in coordinating colours

Why is a capsule wardrobe essential for your kids?
When it comes to creating a minimal lifestyle that works for you and not against you. Creating a minimalist kid-friendly closet is one of the most practical ways to set your child up for success. Here’s why…
1.) A minimalist wardrobe boost emotional wellness
Many of today’s behavioral issues come from children having too much stuff and living a life that is too fast

A minimal wardrobe helps eliminate overwhelm and clutter. Thus, helping out children subconsciously eliminates the unspoken feeling of overwhelm.
2.) A minimalist wardrobe promotes independence
Your child can easily pick out their outfits each day. Clutter=chaos. Setting up a wardrobe that is cluttered-free, it’ll eliminate chaos and overwhelm for your child. Providing them to make a simple decision provides your child with calmness and allows your child to make an independent decisions.
3.) A minimalist wardrobe creates a healthy routine
When you provide your child with fewer options this eliminates decision fatigue. Your child will predict and know exactly what to expect when they wake up in the morning. Creating a healthy routine is vital for your child’s development and confidence in themselves.
4.) A minimalist wardrobe reduces stress and helps your child focus
One thing parents do not always realize is a tantrum or unwanted behavior originates from somewhere. Your child might experience a tantrum from not being able to get her sock on. Leaving you thinking “whoa, what on earth, why are you so upset about this, nothing happened?!” While I’m not insinuating all tantrums come from children having a cluttered and unorganized closet. I do know from research and science that when a child’s environment is cluttered. It’ll create stress in their bodies. There the sock meltdown is the way for your child to show you that they are stressed, anxious, and/or overwhelmed.
Providing your child with a minimalist wardrobe helps your child focus by giving them fewer options which will again boost independence and confidence.
5.) A minimalist wardrobe promotes gratitude
When your child has fewer clothes to pick from. They will be more aware of pieces of clothing they appreciate which will create gratitude in your child. Creating a minimal environment for your child will foster gratitude which will then yield to your child taking better care of their items.
And lastly…
A minimalist capsule wardrobe for your kid makes it EASIER on you! With less time doing laundry, less overwhelm and stress less time cleaning, and more time to focus on what’s important. Ultimately, the happier you are. The happier your child will be in return. Any child would want a happier more focused mom than a mom who is constantly stressed and feeling overwhelmed.
